3.5 Stars All of Charles' works seem to have the same themes and this air of depression and dreary-ness that surrounds them. This wasn't any different. What I will say is that he was one wordy bastard. I felt like I was reading and reading and reading and just not putting any kind of dent into this book. The first quarter was slightly lighthearted for me because I loved the dynamic of little Pip and Joe's relationship. But then things went kind of downhill and it was sad and weird and depressing. I was so upset with the road I realised Pip was headed down after his first "play date" with Estella.I didn't want him to feel bad for the life he had - even though his sister was a total wretch - but he had Joe! Obviously I was Team Joe from the beginning.Overall, for me, I liked it, I could appreciate the story he was trying to tell, his writing flowed, but I wouldn't say that I completely loved this book.
